Icon-based Mapping: Visualising Link Elements

The Optical Link Mapper (OLM) is a fundamental feature of all FTB Lite OTDRs. OLM automatically interprets OTDR traces, providing an intuitive icon-based representation of link elements, including:

  • Automatic Analysis of Multiple Wavelengths: A consolidated link view display facilitates comprehensive analysis.
  • Synced with Events: OLM positions events below the linear view, enabling thorough observation of the link’s activity.
  • Display of End-to-End Link Length, Loss, and ORL: It accurately displays link length, loss, and ORL settings, tailored to user preferences.
  • Automatic Parameter Settings and Clear Go/No-Go Results: Automated parameter settings and clear go/no-go results streamline the analysis process.
  • Prompt Guidance: OLM offers prompt guidance on the location and nature of network issues, facilitating swift resolution.

This Optical Test Drive (OTDR) features a Swap-Out connector that can be easily replaced as needed, without sending the test unit to a service centre. This ensures optimal performance over time, minimising maintenance costs and downtime. The OTDR’s optical connector health can be monitored using an onboard diagnostic tool, allowing for connector replacement only when necessary.

The calibration date remains valid even after swapping the connector, eliminating the need for premature calibration of the unit.

Being able to replace a damaged OTDR connector, such as one caused by connecting a UPC cable to the APC port on your device, without causing is a huge advantage. With EXFO models featuring the Swap-Out connector functionality, you can instantly check connector health and replace the connector within seconds, directly from the field.
