  3. AFL settles fusion splicer lawsuit with SurplusEQ.com

    AFL, a company wholly owned by Fujikura Ltd., is claiming victory in its lawsuit against SurplusEQ.com, Inc. regarding the sale of Fujikura fusion splicers in the U.S. Settlement of the lawsuit includes a court-ordered permanent injunction barring SurplusEQ.com and its owner, Daniel Parsons, from selling any new Fujikura fusion splicers and any new Fujikura fusion splicers not properly licensed and verified for North America.

    The settlement also will see SurplusEQ paying AFL what the latter described in a press release as “a significant financial sum.”

    The court action began in 2011 when AFL, which represents Fujikura in North America, filed suit against SurplusEQ.com and Fiberoptic Hardware LLC (see “AFL files infringement

    AusOptic Interantional is pleased to release the forte E3-30 Electric Brush and Inspection Kit for Ribbon Splicers

    The example v-groove below is a customer’s “field maintained” ribbon splicer with about 8 months of field use  with more than 1,000 ribbon splices completed, the machine performed well up until the dirt in the bottom of the v-groove was large enough to interfere with the alignment, no amount of field cleaning and inspection was able to identify or clear the problem, the build-up as seen in image 3 and 4 is at 700x while the field is typically using 7x which leads the technician to consider the v-groove is clean even though it still has some dirt in it.
